South Africa to China, should I book my connections myself or let a website do it all for me?

I’m flying from Cape Town, South Africa to Haikou, China at the end of May, the cheapest flight I can find is Cape Town – Dubai, Dubai – Guangzhou, and Guangzhou to Haikou.

The layover in Dubai is 10 hours long. This flight is by far the cheapest with the next cheapest being well over twice the price. I’m looking to spend under 1000euro (a lot under that if possible – maybe 500)
What do you think? Would it be cheaper to book all the connections myself? Should I go to a travel agents? (I’m in China at the minute)

Do any of you have any ideas on how to do it cheaper? Must be back in Haikou by 30/05/10.

Thanks!

I think a good idea might be to try searching on dohop.com. They will find the best connections for you, and show you where to book them. I think booking connections for yourself should be fine, as long as you make sure layover and connection times are good.
