Dan, version 4.0 asked:
I will be travelling from Tai Pei, Taiwan to Beijing and Shanghai in September. Which is the best/cheapest airline to use? I’ve heard that travel between Tai Pei and mainland China can be somewhat difficult. Are there any direct flights?
No travel agents, please.

There are no direct flights, so you have to enter China through Hong Kong (wrong direction for you) or Narita (Tokyo) or Inchon (Seoul)
Travel itself isn’t difficult. PRC visitor visas are a bit tighter during the Olympics, but that’s all.
Make sure you have the right type of visa. There is a single entry visa and a double entry visa. Check it out. Your passport must be valid for over six months before it expires.
There’s no direct flight at all due to political reasons
